A rose by any other name

Well, as requested, I added an Newy updater to my page. Should be amusing.

I also have a quick question for you. I am thinking of changing the name of my main character. Which do you like better?

A. Jane (the current name)

B. Jae (short for some fancy name)

C. Cay (short for some fancy name)

I am leaning to Jae right now, but . . . not sure. What you you think?

I actually like Jane. Maybe you could use Jae as a bit of nickname with her close friends?

Jae makes me think her longer names would be Jaeden or Jaeda and I hear that Jaden is a pretty popular YA name right now. Rhiannon as well.

Of course, it's really up to you. Names changes are pretty easy to go back and forth.

Wow! What are you doing posting in the middle of the day? How exciting.

And I love the new updater.

I like Jane; I like it spelled Jayne. But I like Jae, too.

heh, it's a true departure from my normal routine. Amber is having "quiet time," because we went to a birthday party and she was waaaay hopped up on sugar.

So, you both like Jane. You know, I do too. That's why I picked it, obviously. I wondered if I shouldn't go with a more trendy, quirky/boy name that is the trend in YA. But, I need to just write what I want and not worry about that stuff. If an agent or editor wants to change the name, I guess I'll do it then.

Yup.

Hello, Sarah, Will, and James? Not exactly trendy. But classic always works, I think. And it won't be dated, either.

Yes, not dated. Will is actually making a pretty big comeback right now too, btw. Great time to use it. Classic/old names are also a growing trend. Not Utah...here's it's anything that ends in "son" or"ton." Peyton, Payson, Breyton, Grayson, Leighton, Jaxon, Daxton, Braxton...

I'm serious, these are all names of boys/girls in our primary.

How do I know all this stuff? I just had a baby 5 months ago. I was a name hunting fool!

Oh, and can I justify my weird names in Blood Dragon? They're roughly from their Clan heritage. So most of the Emerald Clan names are Gaelic.

Your weird names are classic weird names. Nothing wrong there.
